Moonracer

A Complex Hillside Estate on the Valley Floor

Moonracer is our Estate vineyard on Wappo Hill in the Stags Leap District. Wappo Hill is the highest point on the valley floor, and our vineyards are planted at varying elevations and exposures. Five different clones of Cabernet Sauvignon are planted here along with Cabernet Franc, on fragmented sandstone and volcanic soils. Moonracer bears the unmistakable mark of this complex vineyard as well as the Stags Leap District. The wine is strong and powerful yet elegant, with refined tannins and plenty of depth. It walks the line, offering generous fruit alongside layered flavors and complexity.

It is said that Wappo Hill was important to the Wappo people, providing a central lookout from which to identify intruders. The Wappo, though small in number, were known for their bravery, strength and athleticism. Author Jack London, writing about the curious intertribal races that took place during full moons, noted that the Wappo often won these contests. Thus Moonracer, an oblique reference to the earliest inhabitants of the place Realm calls home.
